Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

Cruising around Yellowstone at dawn is simply delightful and amazing. You can see hot spots everywhere. Meadows will have sections pumping out steam, or there’s a hot spring feeding a tiny hot stream in a meadow, or on the side of a hill. It can be hard not to stop 20 times when going somewhere. It just highlights the fact that I’m touring the caldera of an active volcano. Fun!

There’s just so much to see. But today I’m focusing on (drum roll) the Grand Canyon.

The sign

I picked the South Rim trail for today. It packs two major waterfalls and some great scenery in only 4+ miles. Here is the North YS Falls.

Then south falls, from the trail:

And South Falls again from Artists Point, the end of the south rim trail:

The trail is very picturesque and unique.

I toured the north rim, then on the way back I briefly stopped by Norris Basin. I was too tired to do anything at Norris, which needs at least 2-3 hours to do right. There are dozens of features there. Frankly, I’m beat. I’ve done 30+ miles in the last week, I’m doing an easy day Friday.
