Yellowstone 1st day

Got up early to a brisk morning, (mid-30’s) to beat the crowds. Tried the trail to Fairy Falls with a side trail to the Prismatic Hot Spring overlook. With the cold morning, all the hot water pools were smok’in.

Lots of action

There was actually parking! Risky parking, but what are you gonna do?

You parked where??!

Turns out early morning is not the best time for the prismatic HS… this weekend the high should be in the high 70’s. I may come back as the overlook picture is really nice.

Fairy Falls was better. It was a nice, easy 5mi hike.

As I was heading back to the car, the Thundering Herd was heading in. This is a portion of the crowd!

Next, I headed to Old Faithful. There’s a nice 1.1 mile loop around the geyser, so I did the loop then sat on a bench waiting on the damned geyser. It was late! 🙄

After a couple of teaser, false starts, it finally went off. You can hear the small children in the background being unimpressed by the magnificence. Meh, list checked.

I have a nifty 2min video of the geyser, but can’t upload it.

Finally drove the Firehole Canyon road and caught Firehole Falls. That’s enough for one day.
